Are sulcata tortoises rare?
if you mean by "rare" are the less common than other tortoises? as a pet they are less common due to the large size they grow to. this means in general they cost more to purchase and usually aren't sold in pet stores.
Sulcata Tortoises are not rare. Because of their size you're not likely to find them in a pet store. Because of their "wow" factor african spur tortoise (https://sulcatastortoisecare.blogspot.com) people get them and when they figure out how big they get and how much care they need, they send them off to a rescue group. There's a shelter for them in Arizona that is overflowing. Amazing creatures but not for the average Joe.
